For the 13th year, Hi opens the call to all films and screenplays around the world in any category, by anyone and about anything under the sun: Animation; Documentary; Narrative; Experimental; Music Video; Webisode; and Youth Film. This year in line with our 13th Anniversary we also specifically seek work that deals with 13 of the most pressing issues that face our species and planet.

Since the inaugural in 2005, the Festival has screened over 900 of the world’s finest films from scores of countries including: Argentina, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Lebanon, Mexico, Mozambique, New Zealand, Panama, Poland, Russia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Trinidad & Tobago, the UK and the US, providing a springboard to further success as well as bestowing over 300 awards including our illustrious annual Mira Nair Award for Rising Female Filmmaker.
Keeping in line with its mission, Harlem Int’l offers free admission to films produced in Harlem or Upper Manhattan, centered on the area and/or its rich history or featuring key cast or crew members from Harlem or other Uptown neighborhoods (North of 96th Street in Manhattan). The annual Harlem Spotlight is awarded to the best local film.
